Marilyn Turnbull is certainly the best Pilates teacher I have had (and I have been to a number over the years).  She is patient and explains things fully, always corrects you if necessary and is interested in and helpful to her clients as individuals. She is scrupulous in asking about injuries or any relevant issues and in suggesting alternative ways of doing an exercise if relevant. She makes her classes aware of issues such as nutrition and other health-related matters and produces information sheets on all aspects of Pilates and health. I would recommend her to anybody (and have done). I can’t imagine a better Pilates teacher.

I’ve been doing pilates with Marilyn for almost a year now and thoroughly enjoy it. It’s greatly improved my flexibility, posture and muscle tone, plus it’s given me a real sense of body awareness. Also, I find that it’s really good for my general well-being, in that it relieves stress and makes me feel more relaxed. The classes are fun and Marilyn varies the exercises to keep things interesting and provide new challenges. I look forward to going every week. Highly recommended.

Marilyn is highly qualified, exceptionally enthusiastic and positive, and ensures that participant interest is maintained throughout her classes. Marilyn achieves this by always modifying the exercises each time to provide fresh challenges (with suitable demonstration and explanation), and by leading varied conversations during the exercises. Our flexibility has improved significantly in the 18 months since we started pilates with Marilyn as absolute beginners. In the same period, my golf handicap has reduced from 24 to 15 – surely not a coincidence

I always feel more toned and energized and have awareness of my posture after each lesson. I must say that I always have a better night’s sleep after the class as well.

Having suffered from chronic back problems for many years, this became much worse after having a knee replacement - I have greatly benefited from Marilyn’s Pilates classes. My pain level has greatly reduced and my affected knee has become more flexible. I have learnt about correct posture and body alignment, and I also carry out correctly controlled exercises and breathing.

When starting Pilates I was using two puffs of Beclometasone morning and evening.  I used several puffs of Ventilin during the day when required. After three months I noticed an improvement and did not need to use the Ventilin anymore, currently, I use one puff of Beclometasone morning and evening. Also within only two to three weeks, I noticed I was able to squat down when gardening for a longer period and did not have achy legs when I stood up …excellent! My general ability to do physical movements without an adverse effect has continued to improve.

I had always had a niggly back and after giving birth and lifting the baby constantly it got worse, to the point I had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance. I was advised to try pilates and it was the best advice I could have received.  Since starting with Marilyn about 3 years ago, my back is much less of a problem and I can lift the heavy massage chair I use for work with no problem.  Marilyn is a highly skilled and knowledgeable teacher and I really look forward to my weekly class.

Since joining Marilyn’s class a year ago, my flexibility, balance and range of movement have all improved hugely even though I go to just one class a week. The general aches and pains I’d put down to age have disappeared.  If I miss a class, my body really notices the difference.  Marilyn is friendly, fun, clearly hugely experienced and a great teacher.

I hurt my back when I was 26 years old and over the years it still caused me trouble at the drop of a hat. I then developed osteoarthritis at the age of 58 and found I could not get out of bed in the morning without extreme pain. A friend suggested pilates and I started with Marilyn. I was still waiting for an appointment with a physiotherapist.  I eventually got the appointment and physiotherapist suggested that pilates classes would be exactly what I needed.
